Overflowing in Grace & Compassion to the Undeserving

Grace – don’t leave home without her!

Namely, the unmerited favor of God. The awe and amazement that He loves and forgives you!

But, you know, you’re not God, so, umm you don’t have to hang out with Grace, do you? You don’t have to walk around full of love and compassion for those that hurt and abandon you, do you? For those that annoy and frustrate you? In particular, a heart of compassion for the ridiculous, absurd and irritating elements of life?!

However, what would it look like if we did choose to walk in unforced rhythms of grace, learning to abide in our Messiah and live freely and lightly? How wonderful might that feel?

Grace, don't leave home without her!

Indeed, What does daily Grace and a Heart of Compassion look like?

  • Keeping short accounts, responding lovingly even to those not acting kindly.
  • Accepting sincere apologies graciously, being brave enough to ask for further communication if it is needed, in order to keep relationships real and authentic.
  • Living graciously.
  • Taking an interest in others.
  • Manners
  • Pleasant Language
  • Responding gracefully to criticism.
  • Practicing everyday kindnesses

Specifically, Grace in Hebrew is Chen from the root word Chanan.  – to bend or stoop in kindness to another as a superior to an inferior (Strongs 2603). This has some pretty deep implications if we ponder it for a moment… and really fleshes out the more wonderful meaning behind God’s grace.

For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people.
It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age,
while we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ,
who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.
1These, then, are the things you should teach. Encourage and rebuke with all authority. Do not let anyone despise you.

Titus 2:11-15

How are Grace and Mercy Different?

First, is Mercy the undeserved forgiveness of our transgressions and grace the love and joy that floods us when we accept that? Next, is Mercy what we desperately need and Grace the over-the-top kindness? If that is how our Messiah treats us, how should we treat others? With overflowing grace and compassion.

And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for It’s not up to you to decide if a person deserves grace or not. What if God viewed you with this same skewed mindset? Where would you be today? Friends others should be able to see Jesus in us. Learn to see others with a heart of compassion.: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.

2 Corinthians 12:9

Living Life through Compassion Colored Glasses

Justice, faith, mercy. These we are to live, breathe and eat. But to do it in love we must learn to walk hand in hand with the Ruach ha Kodesh (Holy Spirit). Only He can show you where justice and mercy overlap. Where faith in Him alone must see you through. Where His compassionate heart wants to flow through you.

Walk with Grace and Compassion for the Undeserving

Finally, through the difficult patches of life, where other’s sins and wrong choices affect you is where you encounter a chance to love. In spite of the pain, this is where He can work justice, mercy, and grace through you. When we choose to die to ourselves and let Him flow through us.

Furthermore, how far do we have to travel to get to that juncture, if we walk through life with frustration and judgment in our hearts towards others flaws. How difficult to love with His love when we are busy adding another note to our list of wrongs.

“It’s not up to you to decide if a person deserves grace or not. What if God viewed you with this same skewed mindset? Where would you be today? Friends others should be able to see Jesus in us. Learn to see others with a heart of compassion.”

Sincerely Nicki, Showing Compassion to Others
