Struggling with emotional pain and/or trauma?

Here are five practical tips for processing your suffering while maintaining peace in your heart and home:

And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Phillipians 4:7, Biblegateway
  1. Be authentic, don’t pretend for anyone’s sake that you are not in sorrow. Use this time to let your children and others observe how to handle the agony of life. Use those watching you as a motivation to not wallow, but to also be genuine about the hardship you are enduring. Pain has to be walked through, and processed. Allow this period of suffering its due, this will help create peace in your heart.
  2. Know that there will be growth if you allow it. Know that if you are a follower of God, He will work this for your good, if you allow Him to. Even when that seems impossible, you will find His peace when you trust and have faith that His word is true and His ways are just.
  3. Self: self-care, self-discipline, self-control, self-introspection. You can’t change anyone else. But you can change you. Taking every thought captive. How you react, how you respond, how you process. Seek help and choose to create Shalom and growth.
  4. Work on genuine forgiveness and repentance, if your situation warrants either. Peace comes in large beautiful waves when we are able to acknowledge our responsibilities and our own fallen state.
  5. Let go of things you can. Look closely at all you are doing and the commitments you’ve made. You are dealing with something real here. Emotions, grief, and pain are real. You may need to back off some of your tasks and engagements. A broken heart needs more time to heal than broken bones.

”For I Know The Plans I Have For You‘ Declares the Lord, ‘Plans to Prosper You and Not to Harm YouPlans to Give YouHope and a Future.'”

Jer 29:11

Grab Shalom with all you have and don’t let go!
