Biblical Discernment of the Voice of the Spirit / Ruach HaKodesh
Hearing the voice of the Ruach HaKodesh / Holy Spirit is not always easy to discern, is it? We often question ourselves wondering if it is God’s voice or our own.
Key Factors in Hearing the Voice of the Spirit:
- The Holy Spirit (Ruach HaKodesh) will never contradict the written Word of YHVH (God)
- YHVH is Love
- The work of Yeshua on the cross is foundational
- His voice is never wrong
- His voice will bring joy
- His sheep know His voice
- His voice will bring peace to your soul
Please note: I use original names: God = YHVH, Jesus = Yeshua, Christ= Messiah, and Ruach HaKodesh = Holy Spirit frequently in my writing.
What the Cross Provides
When you look upon the Cross, what do you see? For me, I see my sin, Yeshua’s blood, and sacrifice. And despite an academic belief and heart understanding of the gift provided by the cross – I’ve struggled to know – is the voice in my head YHVH’s / God’s voice? Is it the Holy Spirit or my own thoughts?
I’ve struggled with regrets, hearing His voice, and feeling His presence. And with shame. Yet, the Bible clearly states that our sinful nature is removed when we accept Yeshua’s gift of redemption.
I was tired of missing how YHVH / God sees things and of confidently hearing His voice. It was time to disagree with the enemy and look at the Cross in the full light of what the Word tells us. Hearing the voice of the Spirit is part of the gift He left us.
Can God Speak to You through Your Mind? Spiritual Life Upgrade
Yes!! We are ONE in Spirit with Him. When we struggle to feel that Oneness with God, we are embracing low self-appraisal. We choose to believe we are not worthy of His gift!
This is pride, my friends. We are His creation and He is the one that determines our value. Not us. He purchased us at a high price. Therefore we are valuable in His sight.
Sin is not our master – God is. Seek His righteousness. Do you feel like your faith is weak? Only believe and He will provide you with His faith.
When we are One with the Father and have His spirit within us, His voice may sound like our own, in that He is in us. His voice will never contradict His written Word and is never selfish or unkind. His voice will not be self-serving to our flesh
Is Your Inner Voice the Holy Spirit? How to Recognize the Holy Spirit
Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.
John 15:5
Are the branches part of the vine? Is the whole branch a part of the vine?
How to Hear the Voice of the Holy Spirit
If the whole branch is a part of the vine, then by the fruit of the branch, we will know what vine we are a part of.
His Holy Spirit is in us and around us. When we are His, we are one with Him.
If this is true, why is hearing the voice of the spirit seemingly so difficult? We get caught up in Sin. And no, I don’t just mean we are sinners. I mean we get off track of being One with God through His Spirit – because we get caught up in sin management.
Am I denying we are sinners? No, by no means, for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.
We are to identify with Yeshua’s ascension.
As Messiah is, so are we. We are worth what He says we are worth.
We Don’t Need to Struggle with Sin Constantly
The goodness of God / YHVH leads to repentance.
Trust Him and His solution to sin.
The main message of the gospel is not sin!
Our sin He will remember no more.
The main message is about YHVH/God’s reign, His heart, and His plan.
My sinful nature is my personal problem. The Messiah and I are one – it is pride that keeps us stuck in managing our sin. We can live free of sin – and if we do sin? He is our advocate.
We are His!
The Spirit of Messiah lives inside us!
We are a new creation All of the branch is part of the vine. He exchanged our sinful nature for His righteousness! This was a one-time event. For the sake of the world.
But he was pierced for our transgressions,
Isaiah 53:5 NIV
he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was on him,
and by his wounds we are healed.
WE ARE HEALED.
My fallen nature is dead.

How to Discern the Spirit / Ruach HaKodesh? Be Dead to Sin, Alive in Christ
Christian Strong6 What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? 2 By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? 3 Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.
5 For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his. 6 For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with,[a] that we should no longer be slaves to sin— 7 because anyone who has died has been set free from sin.
8 Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. 9 For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him. 10 The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God.
11 In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. 12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. 13 Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness. 14 For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace.
Romans 4:1-14 NIV

Messiah’s death set us free from the power of sin. We are dead to sin. Our old self is crucified with Him. We can now live alive to Him.
In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus.
Romans 5:11 NIV
For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin.
Hebrews 4:15
