Creativity to Survive Family, Business & a World in Chaos

Being successful is a lot of hard work under normal circumstances. Under the current situation, it seems ridiculous to even try! However, creativity in times of crisis can soothe our stress and bring solutions to the forefront.

Success in the world’s eyes can seem like a lot of flow charts and graphs and dry, hard facts. These types of things can leave a creative person shuttering and running away before they ever accomplish anything of value.

However, during these uncertain and unique times, it is the creatives that may lead the way.

Creative thinkers need to be able to relax a little bit within the confines of plans so that we can have the room we need to grow and be creative. Therefore, creativity in times of crisis should be nurtured and encouraged.

Creation is the primary source of innovation. If we are not able to be creative, then it doesn’t matter how great we are at planning and achieving our goals. We will not be doing anything of real value if we are not actually creating something beneficial to us or others.

Innovation is critical in changing times. It helps us to move humanity forward. It is the building blocks that help to shape our society and the world that we live in. Without innovation, life as we know it would cease to exist. Yeah, I know it feels like that is happening anyway, right??

“But since the 1990s, especially 2000s, American people are focused on their weaknesses, which is test scores and memorisation.  They want to improve that instead of focusing on their strength which is their creativity.  When you focus on improving your weakness, you lose your strengths, then eventually you become average, mediocre.”

The Creativity Crisis

Creativity in Times of Crisis

Creativity has a fundamental value within human society and life as a whole. We would not have learned to survive in dangerous climates and conditions in the past, without innovation on our side.

It can seem very difficult to take the time that you need throughout the day to relax and be creative. Especially if you are stressed. Stress can make creativity dry up in seconds. If we can all embrace a mindset of making space in our hearts and minds for creativity to flow – we will all come out better for it.

So as you adjust to this new (or temporary) normal, each of us must endeavor to keep our stress under control and find the head and heart space that allows creativity and innovation to flow again.

No matter what you are working toward, creativity can lend a hand and help you along the way. Figuring out how to spend way more time together than you are used to? How to deal with children bouncing off the walls or feeling scared? Creative juices can help you to get over hurdles and prevents you from staying stuck in the difficulty of it all.

Why would you stay stuck when there is still so much opportunity to make things work?

So take this transition time slowly, being careful to observe your own and other's reactions and abilities to adjust. Click To Tweet

The key component of creativity is observation. Creativity in times of crisis, like the one we are currently facing, means choosing to find a way. A way to be okay. Not just okay, but thriving through it.

Humans who were able to observe things like the weather and the patterns of their enemies can survive and understand and predict things as they happen, and even sometimes before they happen.

Observation helps us to anticipate things that are potentially limiting to us. When we are able to observe those limiting thoughts, beliefs, or attitudes, and analyze the way they affect us, we can utilize our creative skills to move us forward.

It is dangerous to limit creativity in ourselves or others. Creativity is one of the only ways that we are able to thrive. In addition, by utilizing our creativity, we are able to get ourselves further than we ever thought possible. This is true in our business and personal ventures as well. Even when forced into difficult and new situations or crisis..

New creativity isn’t as simple as sitting down and drawing a picture. Creativity is a way of thinking. It is a way of observing the world that helps us to anticipate future challenges and to deal with the ones that we are already encountering.

Without this type of flexibility, we find ourselves stuck and unable to move forward in a direction that is beneficial.

Therefore, make sure that you take the time you need out of your daily life to focus on and allow your creativity. Do not put pressure on yourself to create or think creatively. Allow it to be a fun and natural process.

Take time to stop and smell the roses and observe the world around you, yes, even now during this wild ride. Choose creativity in this time of crisis.

With creativity being allowed and encouraged to flow, you will be able to more easily rise from the ashes when we face the continuing setbacks and uncertain times.

Let’s make this journey a creative time of growth, introspection, and observation. And get our creative sides flowing, baby!

  1. Creativity does help us thrive in new or difficult times. It helps us problem solve and think of new ways to do something. I think of my grandparents from the depression and their stories of doing a lot with very little. My dad grew up on a farm and was like this too. He could fix just about anything with all sorts of parts because he didn’t have The Home Depot or an auto store down the road when he was younger. Nor did his parents have the money to buy parts.

  2. This is such great advice. As long as we don’t put too much pressure on ourselves to do something amazing. For some of us, God may simply want us to rest. Thanks for linking up at Grace and Truth. laurensparks.net
